Miami Hurricanes Beat FSU After 7 Years

The seven-year slump is over!

The University of Miami defeated long time rival Florida State in an intense 24-20 thriller at Doak Stadium in Tallahassee. Prior to this match up, Miami led the series 31-30, but it was Florida State who had the seven consecutive game winning streak.

Thanks to Hurricane Irma, this game came later than planned but the outcome was just what Miami fans wanted. This was the 62nd time the two met, so emotions were expected to be at an all time high for this historical rivalry.

With Miami invading Doak Stadium with everything to prove and refusing to lose another game to the Seminoles, and Florida State trying to protect its home territory and fighting not to drop to 1-3, the biggest winners of this match up were the fans watching, especially Miami fans.

Offensively both teams started off slow in the first half. Miami was held scoreless, while the Seminoles only managed to kick a field goal.

Despite the slow start, the last quarter was every bit of entertaining.  Both teams seem to wake up at the top of the fourth with a tie game at 10-10, but the action was in the last few seconds of the game. With 1:24 left in the fourth quarter FSU’s QB James Blackman threw a 20 yard pass to Auden Tate for a touchdown to take the lead 20-17.

Only down by three points, the Canes needed a field goal to tie the game. However Malik Rosier and his supporting cast refused to settle for overtime. With only six seconds left on the clock, Roiser found Darell Langham near the goal line for a 23-yard completion.

This was the 6’4, 220-pound receiver’s only catch of the night but it was the most memorable play. Langham stretched over the goal line for the touchdown and shattered every Seminoles fan’s heart, while becoming every Hurricanes fan’s hero.

With the severity of the play and the timing, there was an intense review of the play but was upheld, giving Miami a 23-20 lead. Michael Badgely’s kick was good and Miami took the lead, the victory and the bragging rights.

Rosier completed 19 of his 44 passes and threw for 254 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 29 yards with 14 carries.  Braxton Berrios led with eight receptions, 90 yards and two touchdowns.

Miami is on a roll.
